Why your Fourth of July burger costs more, even as beef imports hit records

Americans firing up the grill this Fourth of July are paying record prices for beef, with ground beef up sharply from a year ago.
The reason is a squeeze years in the making: the US cattle herd has shrunk to its smallest in more than seven decades, and a surge in imported beef has not been enough to bring prices back down.
