A green belt data centre in outer London would emit more than a million tonnes a year

Digital Reef wants to build fifteen data halls across 218 hectares of green belt in Havering, drawing 600 megawatts from the grid.
The developer's own planning documents put the annual carbon output above a million tonnes, which the Guardian calculated as equivalent to 27,000 flights from London to New York.
