A handwritten Declaration of Independence, and the news racing to Britain in 1776
- As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence, a London museum has put on display a document that may be one of the very first reports of that independence to reach Britain: a handwritten copy of the Declaration, transcribed by a Royal Navy admiral in July 1776 and sent across the Atlantic to the government it defied.
