WHO declares the cruise-ship hantavirus outbreak over
- The World Health Organization said on July 2 that a rare and deadly hantavirus outbreak linked to the expedition cruise ship MV Hondius is over.
- The cluster, caused by the Andes virus — the only hantavirus known to pass between people — infected 13 and killed three, and spread in the close quarters of the ship in a way the disease almost never does.
