Usain Bolt proposed to Kasi Bennett during the celebration of his 40th birthday on August 23, ESPN reports. She said yes.

Bennett, a model and Bolt's partner of more than a decade, announced it on Instagram, posting photographs of the proposal. She captioned one of them: "This about sums up the night. My face", followed by a melting emoji and a crying-with-laughter one.

The detail that makes the story

Bennett had been helping to plan the party. She did not know what was going to happen at it.

That is the whole of the anecdote and it is enough. A person organizing a celebration for someone else, being surprised inside the event she built, is a small and complete piece of comedy, and her own caption is the best account of it that exists. There is nothing an outside writer can add to "My face".

The couple

Bolt and Bennett have been together for more than ten years and have three children: a daughter, Olympia Lightning, born in May 2020, and twin sons, Thunder and Saint Leo, born in June 2021.

Bolt has been retired from competition for some years. Turning 40 is the kind of marker that produces retrospectives, and this one produced an engagement instead.

What we could not establish

We could not establish where the party was held, who else was there, when a wedding might be, or whether Bolt has said anything publicly about it. The announcement came from Bennett rather than from Bolt. We verified this account from a single publication, and we have not restated Bolt's career records here because this source does not give them.
