Coral Reef Written Off as Dead Is Found Thriving Off West Africa

A deep coral reef off the coast of Benin, first spotted in the 1960s and long assumed to be dead, has turned out to be a living, thriving ecosystem.
It is the first confirmed deep-water coral community found on the continental shelf of the Gulf of Guinea.
