# Ukraine and Russia trade overnight strikes as Kyiv hits an arms plant deep inside Russia

Drone and missile attacks overnight killed at least three people, Ukrainian and Russian-installed officials said, as Ukraine struck a weapons factory roughly 1,000 kilometers inside Russia and Russian drones hit homes and apartment blocks across several Ukrainian regions.

Ukraine and Russia exchanged deadly strikes overnight into June 27, with Ukrainian forces hitting an arms plant deep inside Russian territory while Russian drones and guided bombs struck several Ukrainian regions, [Al Jazeera reported](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/6/27/three-killed-as-ukraine-and-russia-trade-attacks-overnight).

## Russian strikes across Ukraine

In the northeastern Sumy region, a 66-year-old man was killed when a drone hit his house, the regional governor said, with around 10 others injured in what he described as a heavy assault. In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, nine people — including two children — were wounded and a residential high-rise was partially destroyed, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said. Officials in the Dnipropetrovsk region reported one more person killed. In all, Russian attacks killed two people in Ukraine and wounded more than 20, [The Hill reported, citing the Associated Press](https://thehill.com/homenews/ap/ap-international/ap-ukraine-strikes-industrial-facility-in-volgograd-russian-drone-kills-man-in-sumy/).

## Ukraine strikes the Titan-Barrikady plant

Ukraine, in turn, said it had struck Russia's Titan-Barrikady weapons plant in the Volgograd region with FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles — a long-range strike against a facility Kyiv says produces artillery systems and missile components, [Euronews reported](https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2026/06/27/kyiv-and-moscow-trade-strikes-as-ukraine-hits-arms-factory-deep-in-russia). President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it "a major industrial facility" central to Russian missile production.

Volgograd's governor, Andrei Bocharov, confirmed an attack on a business in the region and said 10 people had been taken to hospital, without detailing which sites were hit. Ukrainian security services said they had also struck a Russian oil pumping station that helps supply Moscow and export terminals.

In Russian-controlled Horlivka, in the occupied Donetsk region, the Moscow-installed mayor said one woman had been killed in a Ukrainian strike — a claim that could not be independently verified.

## A long-range campaign

The exchange reflected a wider Ukrainian effort to hit Russian military infrastructure far from the front. Zelenskyy said the pressure was forcing Russia to reposition air defenses toward Moscow and the Kerch Bridge linking Crimea to the mainland — an assertion Russia's Defense Ministry had not addressed. Moscow, which routinely issues its own battlefield summaries, had not publicly commented on the Volgograd plant beyond the regional casualty figures.

## No diplomatic opening

The overnight violence underscored the war's continued intensity more than four years after Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Front lines in the east have remained broadly static, with Russian forces pressing along the Donetsk axis and Ukraine holding established defensive positions. No serious negotiations were publicly under way; both sides have rejected the other's ceasefire terms, and international mediation has yet to produce a pause in the fighting.
