# Spain beat France to reach World Cup final

Spain booked their place in the 2026 World Cup final with a controlled 2-0 win over France in Dallas, goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro ending France's bid to reach a third consecutive final and sending Spain back to the title match for the first time since 2010.

Spain reached the final of the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday, beating France 2-0 in their semifinal in Dallas with a performance built on possession, pressing and clinical finishing.

Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, after Lamine Yamal was fouled in the box, and Pedro Porro doubled the lead in the 58th minute, finishing off a passing move involving Dani Olmo, [ESPN reported](https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/49361129/spain-shut-france-advance-world-cup-final). France's task grew harder early on when the defender William Saliba went off injured shortly after the opening goal.

## An emphatic performance

Spain dominated the ball and rarely allowed France a clear sight of goal, in keeping with the team's run through the tournament under coach Luis de la Fuente. The victory carried echoes of Spain's golden era: the country last reached a World Cup final in 2010, when it won its only title, and it added a European Championship in 2024 to the ones it claimed in 2008 and 2012.

For France, the defeat ended a remarkable recent run at the World Cup. Les Bleus had reached the previous two finals, winning in 2018 and finishing runners-up in 2022, and had been chasing a third in a row.

## Waiting for an opponent

Spain will now wait to learn who they will face in the final, scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The other semifinal, between England and Argentina, is due to be played on Wednesday.

Oyarzabal and Porro, both scorers on the night, typified a Spanish side that blends its traditional midfield control with attacking contributions from across the team. After years of transition following its 2010 triumph, Spain has returned to the sport's biggest stage, one win away from a second world title.
