# Meta's Smart Glasses Will Disable the Camera if the Recording Light Is Blocked

Meta says it will push an update that shuts off the camera on its Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses if the small white light that signals recording is covered or tampered with. The change follows a small market of modifications and stickers sold to defeat the indicator and record people without their knowledge.

Meta says it is changing how its camera glasses behave when someone tries to hide that they are filming. In an update announced this week, the company said the glasses will disable their camera entirely if the small white light meant to show that recording is under way is physically covered, blocked or destroyed.

## What the update does

The white indicator has been part of Meta's camera glasses from the start: it lights up when the wearer takes a photo or video, so people nearby have at least some signal that a camera is on. ## Why it was needed
